Here at WOW Scotland we are passionate about protecting and preserving wild places which is why we created the Inverness Eco-Hiking Tour.

During this fascinating 2 hour tour you will hike along the stunning Great Glen Way – exploring ancient pine and birch forests as well as more modern conifer plantations. En-route we find out all about the wonderful nature around us including lichens, mosses, insects, flowers and berries. Your expert guide will show what you can and can’t eat and also inform you about the many traditional uses for wildlife you see around you.

You will discover all about the history of Great Glen as you walk along 500 million years of geological history and find out about the many important events that have helped shape the area including the ice age, an ancient tsunami and many earth quakes!

We also find out about new threats to our fragile eco-system, including the large scale building of wind farms and find out about the trade-off between green power and preserving wild places.

During this stunningly beautiful walk we will also find out all about the local history of the area and find out all about the people that inhabited the Great Glen and used this ancient pathway in years gone by.

The tour ends at a new part of the forest planted by local school children 10 years ago which signals the renewed interest in protecting our natural forests. As well as planting a forest they also created a forest fun area described by one visitor as ‘one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen’.

Tickets for this great tour are only £12 per person (children under 14 £6). The tour meeting point is at the bus stop in Leachkin Road. An easy 15 min bus journey from town (not included in the ticket price) takes you here. It is also possible to get there by car, foot and bike!

We run these tours throughout the winter on demand although we need a minimum of 2 people per tour (if there is only one person you can pay for 2 places and get a private tour!).
