Our easy walks do exactly involve straightforward hiking on good trails with no major ascents. Easy walks can last from between 1 – 5 hours. Easy walks may have some ascent, although will generally be flat. Easy walks are conducted at a very leisurely pace in order to allow you more time to enjoy the surroundings and take pictures.
Moderate
Moderate hikes require a reasonable level of fitness. Although they will mostly be on well marked trails, the going underfoot may occassionally be rough and/or muddy. Where no path exists we may go into rough ground, although this will be advised on the route description. Moderate walks will typically involve up to 400 metres of fairly easy ascent and 10 km of walking, although this varies depending on the route.
Challenging
Our challenging hikes are best suited to more regular walkers. These typically go up to ‘Munro’ height and involve walking between 6 – 8 hours, with ascent of 600 + metres. Although they may be on marketed tracks, it could involve going over rough rocky ground or totally off the track.
Strenuous
Our strenuous walks are for fit and experienced walkers who are comfortable with walking between 8 -12 hours in a day. These will typically involve ascending 2 or more Munros (or one remote Munro) and will involve steep and difficult ascents.
